From MLB.Com Scouting Report

Red Sox: Tavarez has settled into a groove in recent weeks. He is 2-0 in his last two starts, giving up just three runs over 12 and 2/3 innings. Tavarez beat the Yankees in his last outing, holding them to three hits and two runs over 5 2/3 innings. Tavarez will try to erase the bad memories of his April 7 start at Texas when he allowed six hits and four runs over four innings and walked five.

Rangers: Loe is 0-4 with a 7.60 ERA in his last six starts. His last victory came in his first start of the season on April 21 against the Oakland Athletics. He is 1-3 with a 5.67 ERA in eight games, including five starts, at home. Opponents are hitting .410 off him with runners in scoring position. He is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in five games, including two starts, in his career against the Red Sox.

As usual all statistics were found at the day by day database at Baseball Musings and this year at Baseball Reference.

Not a lot of history here. In the past Loe has been plagued by walks to these hitters. With Ortiz's numbers I would not be surprised if he sits today with Manny batting clean up.

Loe has had good succes against the Sox, with his two starts being last year. In a start in Arlington he went 6 2/3 innings only giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. His start at Fenway in May was even better as he pitched shut out ball for five innings. Still he is a pitcher with minimal control so I would expect the Sox to get to him in the early innings and work his pitch count early. Shall have to see.
Chow!
