From MLB.Com Scouting Report
Indians: After beginning the season 0-4 with a 7.13 ERA in his first eight starts, Sowers had his best start of the year on Thursday against the Royals. He went seven strong innings and allowed one run on six hits -- all of them singles -- while walking one and striking out one. It was his first victory in 10 starts, dating to Sept. 5
Red Sox: Beckett is expected to be activated from the disabled list to make his first start since May 13, when he sustained a torn flap of skin on the middle finger of his right hand and had to leave after four innings against Baltimore. The 27-year-old right-hander still is chasing Roger Clemens' 1986 club record of 14 consecutive wins starting the season, but has never beaten the Indians. In two career starts against Cleveland, Beckett is 0-2 with a 13.97 ERA.
As usual all statistics were found at the day by day database at Baseball Musings and this year at Baseball Reference.

There isn't a lot of history, but then what do you expect when the Sowers has only faced the Red Sox once in his career. Will Youkilis keep his hitting streak alive tonight? Is J.D. truly getting out of his offensive funk? These questions and more to be answered tonight at 7:05.
Historical Pitching line
Pitcher | GS | W | L | Sho | IP | H | ER | HR | BB | K | ERA | WHIP |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sowers | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 5 | 5 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 5 | 3.60 | 1.40 |
Beckett | 2 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 9 2/3 | 17 | 15 | 6 | 5 | 9 | 13.97 | 2.28 |
If Beckett really wants to show that he is a different pitcher than last year, this is the game to start with, he pitched horribly last year against this team. I say he is a different pitcher and tonight is win number 8 for the prince.
Chow!
