Idle thoughts

To say that this was a stinker of a game would be an insult to stinkness. As 1 healthbetold said at at 38 pitches said " Way to be older and crappier then Mussina was last night. " Still I think that was a little harsh since the Sox seemed to keep on getting in the way of playing well.

The first inning looked like it might start off well when Coco walked on 5 pitches after a ground out by Lugo led off the game. Unfortunately, after Ortiz K'ed on a pitch that broke out of the zone, Coco was called out on a stolen base / pick off play. Unlike Tuesday night, it was clear that he was safe. From there it was all down hill as this game was over after the bottom of the first.

The spankees led off the inning with three straight hits. Damon led off the inning with a double that should have been scored a single with an error on Cement Glove. Jeter quickly followed that with a single of his own followed by a line drive home run on the 3-2 pitch by Matsui. The pitch was high and over the plate and there was no doubt that it was gone. Game over.

Bright spots in this game:

  1. Everybody but Lugo and Varitek had 2 hits.
  2. Youkilis kept his hitting streak alive
  3. Manny looked better in his at bats, even getting an infield hit in the 2nd.
Bad spots:
  1. Schilling sucked
  2. Donnelly sucked
  3. Pinerio sucked
  4. Lugo keeps on making stupid errors
  5. Lugo sucks as a lead off batter again
  6. 19 freaking runners left on base compared to only 10 for the spankees.
Not the way you want to end a series against the team that has been killing you the last decade. Still, the lead is 9.5, 9 games back in the loss column. With only 9 games left against the spankees and six of those in Fenway the Sox have a chance to make up some ground and get the lead back over 10 before next weeks series at Fenway.

Off day on the 25th as the Sox get ready to take on the Rangers. Of course the Rangers are the only other team that the Sox have lost a road series against this year. The boys need to take at least two games in Arlington.

The first game will be Daisuke's first chance to win a game after a loss this year. Will have to see what happens.

MLB.com's press pass for last nights game is here.

Chow!
