Is Lester the answer?

Over at Talk Sox they are generating a petition to get rid of Tavares. Looking through the thread I see that a lot of people are putting a lot of faith in Lester to be the 5th starter. My question is why?

Don't get me wrong, I think his return to baseball while battling cancer is a great story but in my humble opinion there is no way that he is ready to return to the big leagues. He needs at least another season in the minors. Lets take a look at his 15 starts last year to see why I feel that way.

Think about this, Lester made 15 starts and went 5 innings in 7 of them, 6 innings in 3, and 6+ in 3. Out of these 15 starts 1/3 of them were quality starts (mainly because he can't get to 6 innings) when you want at least 2/3 's to be quality starts. Look at his WHIP, it is way over 1 (446th in MLB, 217 in AL last year). I am sorry but this is not someone that deserves the #5 slot in the rotation. You have to be in the top 100 to deserve that and he is not even close in any categories. Send him down to the minors and keep him there until he starts dominating AAA.
