From MLB.Com Scouting Report:

Red Sox: Coming off a victory against the Royals, Beckett takes the mound in Boston's home opener for the second straight season. Against Kansas City on Wednesday, the right-hander tossed five strong innings, allowing a run on two hits while striking out five. In last year's Fenway opener, Beckett pitched seven stellar innings to beat the Jays. He's 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA vs. Seattle in two career starts.

Mariners: Weaver last pitched in a game on March 30 in Las Vegas against the Cubs. He had a mixed bag during Spring Training, looking like the pitcher who helped the Cardinals win a World Series. But he also had less impressive outings, and starts the season as the No. 5 starter. Weaver has a 54-73 career record and 4.59 ERA in the AL.

As usual all statistics were found at the day by day database at Baseball Musings and this year at Baseball Reference.

This would be a good game to start Hinske who is batting 400 against Weaver with 6 RBI's.

Weaver is 3 - 0 in his last 8 appearances against the Sox with 5.20 ERA. The walks have always helped the Sox against this pitcher. Beckett's games against the Mariners include a start as a Marlin. In his start against the Mariners last year in Fenway he went 7 innings giving up only 1 earned run for his win. Look for a similar start today.
